Masters Camp 2018

Masters Camp 2018

This year was my first Masters Camp when I was not a candidate. Though not as apprehensive as the previous 2 years, I was still concerned about how I fit.  I had waited for so many years to train and interact with the masters who were the giants of WTSDA. Well the training and camaraderie was even better than I had imagined.  One of the scenes that rises to the top of my memory book for the camp, was waiting for the van back to the hotel after dinner Saturday night. As the current candidates prepared for their tests, those of us not testing were waiting to return to the hotel to clean up and prepare for lectures.  It was a little rainy and a group of folks were under a small shelter.  I joined them and lo and behold they had music and were dancing.  As a child of the 70’s and 80’s my dancing abilities ran the gamut from “The Pony” at Sadie Hawkins Dances to slam dancing in the Mosh Pit.  My language abilities are as lacking as my dancing ability.  I am fluent in English and West Virginian, with some command of North Carolinian. But celebrating with the Latin Masters to joyous music and dancing, the smiles and love on everyone’s faces was what the 2018 Masters Camp was for me - Learning, sweating, and smiling with a song in my heart.
